Loh Lik Peng, founder and director of Unlisted Collection, will be assuming the role of chairman of the Singapore Land Authority (SLA) Board from August 1. Loh has been a member of the SLA board since August 2017 and was appointed deputy chairman in August 2020.
Known for his innovative approach to converting conservation shophouses into boutique hotels, Loh started this trend more than 20 years ago with Hotel 1929 on Keong Saik Road. He has since expanded his portfolio to include the New Majestic Hotel at Bukit Pasoh in Chinatown and Wanderlust at Dickson Road in Little India. Although he has since sold his hotel properties in Singapore, Unlisted Collection now operates a diverse portfolio of restaurants and hotels in Singapore, Shanghai, London, Dublin, Wicklow, and Cork County in Ireland.
As Loh takes on his new role, Yeoh Oon Jin, former executive chairman of PwC Singapore, will be stepping down as SLA board chairman on July 31. Yeoh has been instrumental in his contributions to the board since joining in August 2016.
Investing in a condo can bring about various advantages, one of which is the potential to leverage the property’s value for additional investments. In fact, numerous investors opt to use their condos as collateral in order to secure additional funds for new investments, thereby expanding their real estate portfolio. This tactic can greatly increase returns, however, it is important to note that it also comes with potential risks. Therefore, it is crucial to create a solid financial plan and carefully assess the potential impact of market fluctuations. For instance, considering Singapore Projects can be a great addition to one’s investment strategy.
During his tenure, Yeoh has been a strong advocate for the adaptive reuse of state properties for social and community purposes. He oversaw the rejuvenation of heritage buildings such as the Former St Andrew’s Mission Hospital into vibrant community and lifestyle clusters. Under his leadership, SLA was elected co-chair of the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management. The board also implemented the National Geospatial Masterplan to drive a geo-enabled Singapore.
In addition, Yeoh has played a key role in advancing the development of the Digital Conveyancing Portal. This involves transforming the manual, paper-based conveyancing process into a streamlined, fully digitalised system.
Yeoh has also been involved in awarding tenders for various state properties, such as the sale of the Henderson Road co-living site to TS Group-TAP JV, and the Scotts Road site to Heritage At Scotts. The latest sale of the Tanjong Katong Complex in a Concept-Price public tender and the award of tenders for Dempsey Road properties to Power Moves and Florte Design have also been credited to Yeoh’s leadership.
As Loh takes on the role of chairman, he will undoubtedly bring his experience and expertise to the board, continuing to drive innovation and development in Singapore’s land use and planning. His leadership will be integral to the growth and success of the SLA in the coming years.
